Today, G-3 had a visit from Delaware City's Fire Company! The children learned many important fire safety tips that you can discuss at home! The children learned the emergency number (9-1-1), the importance of knowing your phone number and address, that you need to change the batteries in your smoke detector two times a year, that you need two exits out of your house, and that you should have a "special meeting place" (something that never moves and will always be there - such as a tree or mailbox) to go to in case there is a fire in your house! The children also learned where there is "bad air" and "good air", and the importance of crawling under the smoke to get to safety. Finally, the children saw what Firefighter Bill looked like all dressed up, and even though they might look or sound a little scary, the children learned never to run or hide from a fire fighter in an emergency. The children had a blast sitting in the fire truck and learned a lot! I hope you will find these tips helpful when speaking to your child over the next few days about fire safety!
Grandparent Volunteer Day was a huge success in G-3! A huge thank you to all of the Grandparents who were able to come out and support our school on this day! I enjoyed meeting all of you and hope that you will come in to volunteer again soon! The day's activities included Morning Meeting (calendar, weather, counting how many days we've been in school so far, and telling the time), Harcourt (where we practiced our letters, popcorn words, and reading cvc words), Making special certificates for our Grandparents, Math (where we practiced matching numbers to quantities on ten frames), Gym, MINT (where we practiced identifying numbers up to 12), recess, Science (where we drew trees showing all of the parts, and gluing fruit loops on for colorful fall leaves), and Al's Pals (where we learned that it's ok to feel angry, but when we do, we should "stop and think" before acting on those angry feelings). It was a very busy, and very fun, day in G-3! Thank you again Grandparents! You are all fantastic! :-) Matthew enjoyed spending time with his Grandparents while drawing his awesome fall tree! Evan loved creating his beautiful fall tree with some help from his Grandmom! Aaron got to create a special certificate for his Grandmom that included a sweet little poem and even some yummy treats! Nathan was very excited to make his special certificate and coloring page for his Grandmom and Grandpop! Isabella and her Grandmother played Roll and Record together during MINT time. The children started out with numbers 1 - 6, then moved onto two dice with numbers 7 -12. |
