On Friday, March 1st, G-3 was very excited to celebrate Read Across America Day! The children dressed up in their PJ's, brought in a pillow and blanket, as well as their favorite Dr. Seuss book, and participated in several different Dr. Seuss themed activities throughout the day! The students began their morning with a special Dr. Seuss breakfast of green eggs and ham in the cafeteria with their families! Next, we met up with a couple other Kindergarten classrooms to read some of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories! Together, we read Green Eggs and Ham, and afterwards the children were able to read and color their own books where they needed to identify the color words and practice writing the simple sentences . Next, we read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and afterwards the children were able to sort their gold fish by color, and create a number sentence in their fishbowl using only the red and green goldfish that they had in their piles. The children really enjoyed being able to eat their goldfish when they were finished! One last activity that we did as a group was to read The Cat in the Hat. After the completion of the story, the children were able to create their own "Cat in the Hat" hat by writing "-at" family words in each stripe, and illustrating the word in the box next to it. We were even able to incorporate patterns into this activity by encouraging the children to color their hats in an AB pattern (red, white, red, white, etc.) The children looked adorable walking around with their hats on for the rest of the day! :-) Finally, in the afternoon, G-3 was fortunate enough to have a visit from Mrs. Marinucci's third grade class! The third graders read Dr. Seuss stories to the students, and afterwards, they assisted the students in making a Ten Apples Up on Top project. Here are some fun pictures of the third graders reading to the students yesterday!
