Get to Know Me - Mrs. Potts
The first thing you should know about me is that teaching kindergarten is more than my job, it is my passion. There is nothing better than seeing all of the exciting progress that each individual child makes throughout the school year. This is my fifth year of teaching at Kathleen H. Wilbur E.S. and there is nowhere else I would rather be - it really is the best school in the state of Delaware! I graduated with my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development and Special Education from the University of Delaware, and received my master's degree in Instruction of Reading from Wilmington University. I have truly gained the same love of learning that I hope to instill in every one of my kindergarten students.
Through my years of educating young children, I have learned the importance of educating the "whole" child (academic, social, emotional, physical), as well as how imperative the use of play can be to a child's success. My goal as your child's kindergarten teacher is to make learning fun, and I am always looking for new ways to achieve this.
Now, for the fun stuff! I am a huge Philadelphia sports fan (Phillies, Flyers, Eagles), I enjoy watching and playing sports (especially volleyball), and I love spending many of my weekends and summer's at the shore! I am still a kid at heart - which would explain the picture above of me in Disney World, and which would also explain why I can relate to the children so well. :-)
We are going to have a wonderful year together! I am so excited to have such a fantastic group of students, and I can't wait for you to see the amazing transformation that your child will go through as the year progresses! Welcome to kindergarten!
