B-1 had a visit from Delaware City Fire Company's own Firefighter Bill! Firefighter Bill taught us all about fire safety tips, such as the emergency number to call (9-1-1), changing out your batteries in your smoke detector twice a year, having two ways out of your house, having a designated meeting place outside of your house if there ever is a fire, and that bad air is above our heads (where the smoke is) and good air is down by the ground. He also reminded the children to feel if a door is hot by using the back of their hand so they don't burn themselves, and to sleep with their doors closed at night. Finally, Firefighter Bill wants everyone to practice learning their address and phone number in case of an emergency. The kids even got a special visit on the fire truck! Please check out our pictures below! :-)
B-1 had a great time at their field trip to Milburn Orchard's today. The weather was beautiful, and the kids were able to showcase their knowledge about the life cycle of an apple, the life cycle of a pumpkin, that pumpkins are fruits, and all about what they know about Johnny Appleseed. The children saw the whole process of apple picking - from the sacks that the workers use to collect the apples, to the sorting machine used for good apples vs. apples that are best for making apple cider, the cold refrigerator where they store the apples, and the store that they sell them in. The kids loved the hayride, and learned many new things - such as why bees are good for apple trees, why Milburn has places for Hawks to perch (to eat the mice so that the mice don't chew the apple tree roots), and why they have a big windmill - to power the water towers used to water the apple trees in certain areas. The kids even got to pet some cute, furry animals! It was an awesome day! :-)
B-1 was so happy to have these special Grandparent's join our classroom! Grandparent's were in the classroom assisting students in their learning and were even able to take home special Grandparent wreaths that said "Granny's are Great" and "Grandparents are Good Apples". The kids had a blast spending quality time with their Grandparents, and we loved having them there too!
